Germany is far advanced compared to the United States when it comes to legalizing Same-Sex-Marriage. We have had registered partnerships since more than ten years. But the german government under Chancellor Angela Merkel has been procrastinating to give registered partnerships the same legal status as marriage. This is a shame for two reasons.

First, the german government is obliged to give registered partnerships full legal status because the Federal Constitutional Court of Germany demanded years ago that the government has to do so.  German opposition parties have picked up on Obama´s initiative to once more demand full legal status.

Second, homosexuality is much more accepted in Germany than in the US, so it would take Mrs Merkel way less courage to take that step than was needed for Barack Obama. So i can only say: Forward, Angie!
