Lists about Polyamory – Statistics
In the United States in 2009, the number of people living polyamorous was estimated at half a million, according to Jessica Bennett @jess7bennett in The Daily Beast: Only You. And You. And You. (Jul 28, 2009)
For my homecountry, Germany, there are no reliable numbers yet, as Polyamory is relatively new for us. Estimates vary around 10.000, but it might well be many more, as it is not yet as common in germany to come out as poly as it is, or is becomng, in the USA. and of course, it always depends on how you define being poly. I have put forth an unusual approach in this article.

According to Wikipedia (and ), in most US states liinvg in a polygamous lifestyle isn’t illegal. (However, bigamy is illegal).(Cross-posted with Glaivester.)UPDATE: I just read in that the main way polygamists were prosecuted in the US, back in the 1800s, wasn’t through bigamy laws (too hard to prove) but through selective application of unlawful cohabitions laws that is, laws against unmarried couples liinvg together. I wonder how many of those laws are still on the books (albeit not enforced), and in which states?
